My Dear, Beautiful Mama Bear | Post 18

"... the doors of welcome are wide open;
right now He is ready to welcome you.
Today He is ready to save you."
2 corinthians 6:2
"I'm standing on the seashore.  A ship at my side spread her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.  She's an object of beauty and strength and I stand and watch her until the sea and the sky come down to mingle with each other.  And then I hear someone at my side saying, 'There, she's gone.' Gone where? Gone my my sight, that is all.  See, just at the moment when someone at my side says, 'There, she's gone' there are other eyes watching her coming… and there are other voices taking up a glad shout, 'Look! Here she comes!'" henry van dyke

This morning we were holding her hand, singing, like we have been for most of the past couple of days.  The chorus began:

"And I will rise when He calls my name
No more sorrow, no more pain

I will rise on eagles' wings
Before my God fall on my knees
And riiiiise, I will rise"

Somewhere between those few lines He called her name.  She rose up and took her first breaths of heaven's air, in a beautiful new body.  I'm not sure how formal heaven's entry gates are, but I'm vividly imagining a welcome like the one in Luke 15.  A jumping, leaping, running Father meeting His child on the road.  Tears of joy!  Bear hugs!  Triumph!  Together, at home, forever and ever and even more.  We miss her.  We'll always miss her here.  But thank goodness even the missing will come to an end.

The memorial will be this Saturday in Gaithersburg.  More details to come once arrangements are finalized.  Thank you, beloved people.  You have carried us through.  We are desperate for more of those life-giving prayers.

"The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen!"

  1. Oh Kristen... God bless you all. That poem about the shores grabs my heart every time I read it. It was displayed at my grandfather's funeral this past summer and while it hurts my heart to be on the shore saying 'They're gone', there is so much comfort in knowing there are people on the other side that are overjoyed, saying "There they come!!!!"

My prayers will continue for your family.

  2. My deepest sympathies on the passing of your mama bear! It's never easy to say good bye, but we have the hope of reuniting with them in eternity. We will continue to pray for you and your family Kristen! Take care!

  3. my heart breaks for you and your family, but such joy she must be feeling. exulting, in the arms of her Savior! you are all in my prayers, and heavy on my mind. may the Lord comfort you and bring you peace. <3

  4. Our family is praying for you and your family, Kristen. We are grieving at your loss and rejoicing at your mom's homecoming. - Joshua & Shannon

  5. I have many fond memories of laughter and tears as we side by side raised our kids and shared experiences serving in the Nursing Mother's room at church. Your Mom was a fun lady, and full of love and joy for our Lord. I am sad that she is no longer with us, but I am happy to know she is rejoicing with the Lord without pain and in perfect peace! Cindy Ryan

  6. We are praying for you and your family, Kristen. May the God of all comfort bring waves to you now. Dennis and Susan

  7. I will be praying for your family. I will truly miss seeing pictures of your mama bear's beautiful, smiling face. I never met her but could see that she was a wonderful, Godly, gorgeous person. She can now say "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." What an accomplishment! May her story bring numerous people to Christ! Thank God we know that you will all be reunited again- not in a dream, not in some imaginary spirit world, but in real life. In person. You will run and embrace your Mama Bear again, and for eternity.

    Praying for you all continuously.

  8. Kristen,

  12. Oh. I was there the week of my uncle's homegoing, and heaven hung so low! Praying for you now.

  13. Its beautiful the journey you have written and how you have celebrated your beautiful mama, as a mom myself this is heart breaking and yet beautiful at the same time. been listening to Ocean's a lot by Hillson which says: Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed, and You won't start now

will be praying for you and your beautiful loving family during this difficult time.
