exodus 3

[God to Moses]
“I have surely seen the affliction of my people,
have heard their cry.
I know their sufferings,
and I have come down to deliver them,
to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land,
and...I will be with you”

[Moses to God]
“If I come to the people of Israel and say to them,
‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’
and they ask me,
‘What is his name?’
what shall I say to them?”

[God to Moses]
Tell them “I AM WHO I AM.”

meaning:
He will be, eternal,
to be, to exist,
and always is.
Unchangeable.
This name is unique to God alone.
The covenant-keeping God.
El Shaddai shows God as covenant maker
I AM/Yahweh shows God as covenant keeper.

[God continues to Moses]
Say this to the people of Israel,
‘The LORD,
the God of your fathers,
the God of Abraham,
the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob,
has sent me to you.’
This is my name forever,
and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations."

//

Be still, my soul: the Lord is on thy side.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In every change, He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: begin the song of praise

  1. I'm so thankful He is our "everlasting Father", that He will never forsake us, and that He knows what is best for His children.

  3. Beautiful. Those verses and Ex 4:11-12 are ones that I can never read too much! Thanks for bringing them back to mind! And the quote thing at the end is lovely.
